First Impressions: JP Leathercraft Field Notes Wallet<\/h2>\n

Upon first opening the package sent via USPS I cut it with anticipation for what was awaiting inside. \u00a0The bubble mailer was much heavier than I assumed it would be. \u00a0When I removed the contents, I was completely blown away. \u00a0In front of me was one of the most beautiful leather pieces I have owned. \u00a0A handcrafted, unique and high-quality Field Notes wallet, courtesy of JP Leatherworks. \u00a0The stitching was perfectly lined up without anything out of line. \u00a0The leather pattern is gorgeous, and felt very supple with an interesting color. \u00a0Damn, what a nice piece this is.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/img><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/img><\/div><\/div>On second look, the pattern of the leather was very nicely detailed. \u00a0The color is amazing and showed some interesting light sections caused by a semi-crease which creates a color contrasting and worn-in effect. \u00a0Before purchase I knew it was going to be a dimensionally larger wallet. \u00a0My old wallets were all bi-folds which were about as thick but not as long. \u00a0The thickness of this is noticeable. \u00a0I can tell the materials are of high quality by the weight and superb feel to the touch.<\/p>\n

Interior Features<\/h2>\n

When I opened the wallet up, I was impressed further. \u00a0There were more of the distinct wear marks and a very soft mid-section. \u00a0On the left there are two card slots which are incorporated on each side of a slim pocket stitched onto a larger pocket beneath. \u00a0There is a single pocket on the right, for inserting and holding the back cover of a Field Notes notebook (or as I discovered also accommodates for Moleskine Cahier small notebooks).<\/p>\n

Everything on the interior is lined up correctly and nothing bends or wears in destructive ways. \u00a0I find I can hold 2 credit cards, 2 forms of ID, a ballpoint pen, 4 business cards, a health insurance card and a dental insurance card (all only on the left side). \u00a0On the right I hold a Moleskins Cahier notebook along with petty cash and purchase receipts as well.\u00a0

I purchased this wallet mainly so that I could extend the life of my Moleskine Cahier. \u00a0This is a daily carry item for me and as such it is subject to much abuse and eventual destruction. \u00a0Many of the notebooks I have carried are destroyed before I completely use them. \u00a0After several years of carrying them on their own, I justified spending more than I normally would on this. \u00a0It just so happened I also needed a new wallet. \u00a0This is by far the nicest leather wallet I\u2019ve owned. \u00a0Items which serve multiple purposes are highly desirable to me. \u00a0When these items happen to be high quality at low costs, I\u2019m drawn in further.<\/p>\n

High Quality Features<\/h2>\n

My wallet was accompanied with a maker\u2019s card, detailing its composition, date of manufacture, materials and marker\u2019s signature. \u00a0As you can see, my example is a Field Notes Wallet, made of 6oz

\"\"<\/img><\/div><\/div>Wheat Harvest Oil Tanned Leather and held together with Cream colored stitching. \u00a0This attention to detail is a real tell of how much the maker puts into his work. \u00a0It isn\u2019t very often one may purchase anything with a real proof of creation like this. \u00a0Not to say this is equal to a Chris Reeve knife but they share this same quality, both are handmade and include similar cards detailing their production.<\/p>\n

On the interior there are other details enhancing this wallet\u2019s perceived quality. \u00a0A company logo is imprinted on the left side and a caption of \u201cHANDMADE WITH PRIDE IN THE USA\u201d on the right. \u00a0Even the embossed inscriptions are filled in with ink, what hasn\u2019t Mr. Jose Pirul @ JPL thought of?<\/p>\n

The Field Notes Wallet is perfect for keeping in a breast pocket of a jacket or interior pocket of a light jacket. \u00a0I can hardly notice it while wearing these. \u00a0Nothing slips out by accident and it keeps everything nice and flat. \u00a0When I am using this in my daily life, I really appreciate the functionality and feel.<\/p>\n
