Organization of your interior is paramount if you want to have a comfortable experience. \u00a0I use a large bin to keep things inside and also to use as a surface to place items on top of. \u00a0When I don\u2019t need my next change of clothes, I keep them clean and out of the way inside a storage bin. \u00a0I do the same with cooking utensils, food, and backpacking equipment. \u00a0When storing extra clothes I will take it a step further and use vacuum bags to reduce the space they occupy. \u00a0I can keep more equipment and supplies when they are contained to a limited footprint.<\/p>\n

6- Rooftop Storage<\/h2>\n

For items and equipment that only needs to be used when outside of the vehicle, a rooftop storage solution is very useful. \u00a0Since I don\u2019t need my mountain bike helmet I can keep it in the rooftop bag. \u00a0The same applies for my hiking boots (which can really smell and are not what I want in my car with my over-night). \u00a0Ropes, stakes, chairs and various other larger items can be stowed effectively on the roof. \u00a0You don\u2019t need an expensive Yakima rack (thought they are well-designed and awesome) a simple rooftop bag may be all you need.<\/p>\n

7- Exterior Storage Container<\/h2>\n

Another option to keep things like dirty clothes, heavy equipment or bulky items is a trailer hitch mounted shelf that holds a bin. \u00a0Similarly to the rooftop solution, this takes it a step further and can house heavier items you don\u2019t want on the roof. \u00a0If it can lock, it is that much more valuable to keep out nosey two-legged varmint from helping themselves to your gear.<\/p>\n

8- Options To Secure A Mountain Bike<\/h2>\n

Keeping your mountain bike safe when car camping can be a concern. \u00a0A bike by nature is easy to move and ride away on if someone wants it bad enough. \u00a0For this reason a lockable storage solution may be important. \u00a0There are rack designs which mount onto the roof or trailer hitch you can lock the bike to when sleeping or keeping the bike out of the way. \u00a0Mountain bikes do not make the most comfortable sleeping buddies inside of a vehicle. \u00a0This can also allow you to keep the interior clean from grease, grim, mud, or dust as well.<\/p>\n
