{"id":203,"date":"2018-05-25T12:55:04","date_gmt":"2018-05-25T12:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/livesoutside.com\/?p=203"},"modified":"2018-05-31T21:32:33","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T21:32:33","slug":"camping-shelters-writers-choice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/livesoutside.com\/index.php\/2018\/05\/25\/camping-shelters-writers-choice\/","title":{"rendered":"Camping Shelters- Writer&#8217;s Choice"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Camping Shelters-\u00a0Writer&#8217;s Choice<\/h1>\n<p>These are the types of camping shelters I have used and do use when I&#8217;m spending nights outdoors. \u00a0I can pass along my mark of approval that these are viable options which accomplish their intended purpose if used properly.<\/p>\n<h2>Best 4-Season Tent<\/h2>\n<p>Fjallraven Abisko Lite 2 with groundsheet<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 season capabilities.<\/li>\n<li>More eco friendly than most other tent options with comparable performance.<\/li>\n<li>Typical great Fjallraven quality and durability.<\/li>\n<li>This shelter has an outer storage area to fit dirty footwear and\/or packs to free up or keep clean the interior.<\/li>\n<li>Wonder ventilation through the well-designed roof openings but still keeps water and precipitation out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Best Screen Hammock<\/h2>\n<p>Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Great shelter for humid, insect dense areas.<\/li>\n<li>Durable and very roomy. \u00a0You can house your pack if you wish (I would use a little 550 paracord tied on one end of the hammock and the other on the pack to keep everything from sagging in the middle).<\/li>\n<li>The mesh screen keeps out very tiny bugs very well and allows for some visibility, yet is also breathable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Best Ultralight Open Hammock<\/h2>\n<p>Eno Sub7 Hammock<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wonderful shelter for non-humid, warm weather areas.<\/li>\n<li>Ideal for lightweight backpacking, especially when paired with the Eno Helios tree straps.<\/li>\n<li>Made of very strong Dyneema fibers.<\/li>\n<li>Very minimal pack space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Best Lightweight Tarp<\/h2>\n<p>Henessy Hex Tarp<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent general tarp for minimal shelter use.<\/li>\n<li>Very large covering for those who like to move around at night or to use for multiple people.<\/li>\n<li>With 6 sides, you can set up to block wind or light in various positions.<\/li>\n<li>Built-in attachments and cords along with storage pockets to keep them organized and out of the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Honorable Mention- Car Camping<\/h2>\n<p>2010 Nissan Murano SL<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Surprisingly great for car camping.<\/li>\n<li>Enough room in the back (seats down) for me (5&#8242;
